The chin is an essential part of each individual’s unique facial anatomy. Many believe that it provides the profile with structure, balance, and even character. As such, a chin that is too small, too large, recessed, or malpositioned can contribute to an asymmetrical or otherwise undesired facial aesthetic.
Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Alexander Q. Ereso, MD, has extensive experience performing chin augmentation surgery. He has obtained advanced certification by undergoing additional training through Implantech’s “Master Educational Series” course, “Advanced Techniques Using Facial and Body Contouring Implants.” Using advanced surgical techniques and high-quality chin implants, he can help you achieve your ideal appearance with subtle, natural-looking results.

What is Chin Augmentation?
Also known as “genioplasty,” chin augmentation refers to the cosmetic enhancement of the chin through the placement of implants or surgical alteration of the chin bone. In the hands of an experienced plastic or craniofacial surgeon, the procedure can:
- Enlarge an especially diminutive chin
- Correct a crooked or misshapen chin
- Improve the definition of the jawline
- Reduce the appearance of a chin cleft, jowls, or a double chin (particularly when additional treatments, such as liposuction, are incorporated)
- Harmonize and balance the facial features
While several strategies exist to perform chin augmentation, Dr. Ereso generally prefers to use silicone implants for this procedure. Made of a safe, durable silicone, our chin implants come in a variety of sizes and are custom-fitted to meet your preferences.
How Does Chin Augmentation Work?
Chin augmentation with implants is typically performed in an outpatient setting with anesthesia. To begin the procedure, Dr. Ereso will make a small incision under the chin. He will then create a pocket to facilitate placement of the implant in front of the jaw bone. The surgery is generally completed in under an hour.
For a more comprehensive enhancement of the facial structure, many patients choose to undergo additional procedures, such as rhinoplasty, alongside their chin augmentation. Rhinoplasty in particular can work in tandem with chin augmentation to create a more balanced, proportionate profile.
What is Chin Augmentation Recovery Like?
Chin augmentation generally does not warrant a lengthy recovery and most patients are able to return to regular activities within a week. While side effects such as bruising and soreness are common, they are usually mild and can often be controlled with ice or over-the-counter medications. Additionally, moderate to significant swelling can be expected for the first few months as your body adapts to the implant.
How Much Does Chin Augmentation Cost?
At our practice, the cost of chin augmentation generally begins at $5,500. Keep in mind that the price of your surgery is contingent upon several factors, such as surgeons’ fees, anesthesia and surgical facility expenses, post-operative care and medications, and more.
Following an initial consultation and thorough walkthrough of the plan for your procedure, Dr. Ereso will be able to give you a more concrete price. In the meantime, feel free to inquire about our payment options, which include installment programs through CareCredit®, a third-party financier, for eligible patients.
