Introducing The Dermasculpt Microcannula®: A Flexible, Blunt Tip Cannula
We have been waiting for this for years!
Placing fillers in patient’s faces for 30 years, BRUISING after treatments is one of the most annoying and upsetting problems to patients as well as our team.
Creating a blunt-tipped flexible cannula similar to the instruments that we use when performing structural fat grafting to the face, only smaller, is a revolutionary breakthrough in filler treatments. The technology has improved to the point that a very fine, long blunt “needle” or more accurately, a cannula, can be manufactured at a reasonable price that is disposable. These new devices can be used for Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra and virtually any other kind of filler treatment, including fat grafting! The MicroCannula produces up to 50 percent less bruising than other instruments. Also because the “needles” are blunt, the discomfort during the procedure is much less! This is a win-win situation for everyone. We have been very happy using these new fine blunt cannulas and feel that we can produce better results with less bruising and less discomfort.

What Is A Cannula?
A cannula is a very slender, hollow tube that Dr. Ereso and our team use to administer injectable fillers.
What Are The Advantages Of Using A Blunt-tip Cannula Compared To A Stiff Needle?
A blunt-tip cannula is more flexible and can be more easily manipulated through the tissues than a stiff needle can. It can maneuver around blood vessels and is less likely to pierce or puncture veins and arteries. This results in a lower occurrence of tissue damage, less bruising and less discomfort and downtime.
Furthermore, as opposed to creating multiple openings in the skin to administer filler product, a blunt-tip cannula allows for a single point of entry. And by design, the blunt-tip cannula stimulates the production of natural collagen, which results in fresher, younger-looking skin.
Does The Use Of A Cannula Improve The Treatment Outcomes?
Using a cannula is more precise than a sharp needle. When the injector can place the filler more accurately and smoothly, the treatment outcomes tend to look more natural.
The flexibility and maneuverability of the blunt-tip cannula also results in less swelling, bruising and bleeding. Without these aftereffects, you will be able to see and enjoy your results sooner.
Is A Cannula Appropriate For Use With All Dermal Fillers?
Although cannulas offer many benefits, there are some cases where sharp needles are the safer and more efficient choice. Dr. Ereso and our injectors will evaluate your needs on an individual basis and recommend whether a cannula or needle should be used.
Can Multiple Areas Be Treated With The Blunt Microcannula?
Yes. The microcannulas used are longer than the usual sharp needles that administer filler. Because of this length as well as the microcannula’s maneuverability and flexibility, our injectors can cover two or three different treatment areas through a single point of entry.
What Are The Most Commonly Treated Areas?
The blunt microcannula can be used with fillers that lift and/or volumize the cheeks, lips, sides of the mouth, brows and temples.
Is Anesthesia Needed For Filler Injections With The Microcannula?
No. A tiny sharp needle creates the initial opening in the skin and the cannula is inserted through the opening to dispense the filler. The initial piercing of the skin is usually not painful and anesthesia is not required. Ice can be applied prior to the needle prick, if requested.
