Can I Get Lipo on My Neck and Chin?
Some patients who desire a younger and more attractive appearance without extensive treatment and recovery time choose to have liposuction (lipo) on their neck and chin instead of a full facelift. Liposuction can remove stubborn fat deposits and give the neck, chin and jawline a more elegant and refined appearance. Dr. Alexander Ereso of Alexander Ereso Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics would like to share some information about this option, along with information about Kybella injections as an alternative to lipo.
Liposuction Basics
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or body contouring, is a surgical procedure that uses a cannula (thin, hollow tube) to break up fat from specific areas of the body and suction it out. Dr. Ereso has adopted an advanced technique called SAFELipo that achieves smoother, more natural looking results than traditional liposuction in targeted areas, including the neck and underneath the chin.
Liposuction on the face and neck can achieve several objectives:
- Reduce a thick neck
- Give the neck a leaner and more elegant contour
- Eliminate a “double chin”
- Give the chin and jawline more definition
- Provide long-lasting results that age naturally with the patient
Liposuction can also be combined with facelift surgery or another facial rejuvenation procedure.
Kybella
Liposuction is not the only way to reduce excess fat underneath the chin. Alexander Ereso Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics also offers Kybella injectable treatment, a non-surgical option that generally requires two to six sessions to reduce “submental fullness,” or a double chin. Kybella is made from deoxycholic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. The acid targets fat cells, and literally melts the fat away. Results can start to appear after a month and improve over three to four months.
Downtime after a Kybella treatment is minimal, and side effects can include some swelling and redness that generally only last for a day or two. The results from Kybella are permanent, and although a patient may regain fat in the chin area if they experience overall weight gain, the weight will be distributed more evenly. One thing to note is that if you have sagging or excess skin on your chin, Kybella injections will not tighten the skin – only reduce excess fat.
