Refreshing Tired Eyes with Eyelid Lift
Quite often, the eyes are the first thing you notice about someone and the last thing you forget. When you engage in conversation, you look to their eyes for cues and clues into their personality. Unfortunately, time and genetics can be unkind to aging eyelids, causing the upper eyelids to droop and bags to form below the eyes. Blepharoplasty, known more commonly as eyelid lift, is a great way to erase signs of aging around the eyes. Below, Dr. Alexander Ereso explains why an eyelid lift may be the right cosmetic surgery option for you.
Are You a Good Candidate for Eyelid Lift?
Before consulting a plastic surgeon, ask yourself if one or more of these conditions applies to you:
- Vision is impaired by loose, sagging skin from the upper eyelid.
- Excess upper eyelid skin has noticeably changed the shape and folds of the lids.
- Lower lids appear chronically puffy.
- Lower lids droop and/or there are dark circles and bags under the eyes.
What Is Involved with Eyelid Lift?
Operations involving the upper eyelids or bags under the eyes are outpatient procedures performed with local anesthesia. For the upper lids, your doctor will excise the unwanted skin and tighten the remaining skin. Scars can be easily hidden in your eyelids’ natural folds. Under-eye bags require a different approach, moving and rearranging the fat deposits below the eye. This can be done without a noticeable incision, by entering from the area between the eye and lid. Your doctor will be able to help you determine which procedures will help you look and feel your best.
Recovery Time
Recovery is usually quick after eyelid lift procedures. Swelling on the upper lids tends to subside within three to five days, and most patients are able to apply makeup again within a week. The lower lids can take a little longer to heal, but eye drops, sunglasses and cold compresses can all help to speed up the process. Your doctor will help you design the recovery plan that works best for you.
