The Bottom Line on Brazilian Butt Lift
The Brazilian Butt Lift has become the fastest growing surgical procedure in the country. But what exactly is this cosmetic enhancement with the flashy name? In this post, Dr. Alexander Ereso explains how using fat grafting for buttock augmentation works and why it may be a better option than artificial implants. Read on to learn more.
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
A Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that uses fat grafting to augment the buttocks region of the body. It is an excellent option for those that wish to have a larger, fuller appearing backside. Fat grafting is a technique that takes fat from other parts of the body and injects it in to the buttocks to add fullness and volume to the area.
Brazilian Butt Lift is a two-part procedure. First, unwanted fat is taken from donor sites on the body via liposuction. Typically, donor sites are the inner thighs, abdomen, hips and lower back. Fat cells taken from these areas are then put through a special process that prepares them for injection. Once purified, the cells are injected into the upper area of the buttocks, providing the “Lifted” appearance.
The body will naturally reabsorb some of the fat cells. However, when the proper injection techniques are applied, 60-70 percent of the fat cells transferred will remain in the target area one year after the Lift. For patients seeking a fuller appearance, a second procedure may be performed at that time with very low incidence of side effects.
Is Brazilian Butt Lift Better Than Other Options?
The main advantage of Brazilian Butt Lift over the use of an artificial buttocks implant is that because it uses the body’s own tissue, there is less risk of infection or rejection. Artificial implants can also have an unnatural look to them, whereas using body fat gives one a natural appearance. In addition, the liposuctioned donor sites of the body – the hips, thighs and abdomen – are now slimmer, giving the body a trim, sculpted look.
