Do’s and Don’ts before Your Injectables Appointment
One of the best things about cosmetic injectables such as Botox and Juvederm is that they do not require a lot of advanced preparation. For the most part, you can follow your everyday routine prior to coming in for your appointment.
With that said, there are a few key “do’s” and “don’ts” that can reduce your chances of aftereffects and maximize your chances of great results. Read on as Dr. Alexander Ereso reveals what you should and shouldn’t do before your injectables appointment.
Do think about what you want to accomplish. Make sure you can clearly articulate your treatment goals to your injector. It can be helpful to show your injector a photograph of yourself where you love your appearance; they can then use the photo as a reference point.
Do hydrate and eat healthy meals in the days leading up to your appointment.
Do check your vitamins and supplements. Don’t take any that can thin your blood, as this increases the chances of bruising and swelling. Avoid vitamin E, fish oil, ginseng and gingko biloba until after your appointment.
Do take a selfie or a video of yourself. It is helpful to have a comparison point so you can remember what you looked like before your injectables treatment and see what improvements have been made afterward.
Don’t take aspirin, ibuprofen or similar products (e.g., Advil, Motrin, Aleve) for about a week prior to your appointment. These products may increase your chance of having a visible bruise.
Don’t plan to work out right afterwards. Exercising right afterwards may lead to bruising or migration of the injectable or affect the longevity of your results.
Don’t drink alcohol. Alcohol can increase your chances of noticeable bruising.
Don’t schedule any big social events right after your appointment. Allow about 10 to 14 days for any side effects to fade and your final results to settle.
Do be open to your injector’s suggestions. As long as you are working with someone who is properly trained and experienced, let your injector recommend the best approach to achieve your goals. You may think you want a certain neurotoxin or filler for your wrinkles, but your injector is the expert.
