Four Reasons to Have Plastic Surgery During Winter
When considering plastic surgery, it is important to plan for your recovery. Surgical treatments
like tummy tuck surgery, breast augmentation and facelift surgery require time off from work and daily activities to allow your body to properly heal and the final results to settle in.
While there is no universal “right time” for plastic surgery, there are several benefits to pursuing (and recovering from) surgery during the winter season. Alexander Ereso Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics explains why.
You Can Conceal Surgical Garments
Many plastic surgery procedures require that the patient wear a surgical garment for the first weeks of recovery. For example, if you pursue liposuction or tummy tuck surgery, you will need to wear a compression garment. Breast enhancement procedures like augmentation and lift require you to wear a surgical bra. The hot weather during summer makes it difficult to hide these garments. It is easier to hide these surgical garments under bulky sweaters and long pants during the winter.
You Can Protect Scars
All plastic surgery procedures that require incisions come with scars. But over time, those scars fade. It is important to do your part in protecting your skin as it heals from these scars. Exposing your scars to the sun without proper sun protection can cause them to become red and raised from the surface of the skin. Undergoing plastic surgery during the winter minimizes the possibility of your scars being exposed to the sun as they will most likely be covered up because of the cold weather.
You Will Mostly be Indoors
For the first two weeks of recovery, you will need to avoid strenuous activities such as lifting heavy objects and exercising. As the weather gets cooler, you are more likely to stay indoors and refrain from outdoor activities such as swimming and biking. The winter weather is the perfect excuse to stay indoors bundled up on your couch or bed as your body heals from surgery.
You Will Be Ready for Summer
While the initial recovery period for many body and facial procedures is typically two weeks, the final results take much longer to appear. For example, breast implants tend to sit high on the chest wall immediately after surgery but settle into a more natural position over time. Pursuing plastic surgery during the winter season allows your body plenty of healing time before the summer.
